997 S exhaust upgrade
997 S exhaust upgrade
Not getting any response on the 997 forum so thought I'd try it here. What is everybody happy with re aftermarket exhaust?
I am considering stock headers (997 S) since most evidence suggests little or no improvement (power or sound) from aftermarket headers. Then adding AWE cats and cans. Anyone with this system who can comment on sound/performance/quality. I know some people had CEL light issues with the old cats from AWE. Supposedly corrected.?.? What about passing smog with the AWE cats?
Anybody highly recommend another brand, Tubi, Cargraphic etc?

Check out Fabspeed. Some of the Grand Am GT cars use these. I have the Fabspeed mufflers and they sound great. I did not notice any power gains on my butt dyno but I can hear the revs with my helmet on. Not to loud either on the street. Fabspeed also builds cat and headers.
If I had the money or knew I was going t keep my current car a long time I would do the Evo intake, headers 200 cel cats and Fabspeed mufflers and either the Softronic, Revo or Protronic ECU re-map. then I would put on Bilstein Damptronic coil over shocks.

I have AWE Cats with Evo Headers, Mufflers, and Intake. Sounds amazing and butt dyno feels like more power. I am going to Dyno my car and a friend will Dyno his Stock 06 C2S at the same time.
I would do the full set up if you can, as one item change won't give you a huge change, but the whole system makes if a monster.

I'm still thinking AWE cats and cans, stock 997S headers. If you look at the dyno charts it appears the vast majority of the improvement comes from the cats & cans. The headers are $1600 or so, which seems like too much for another 2-5 hp.
My first mod will likely be Bilstein Damptronics. Everyone seems to be VERY happy with them performance-wise, plus I want to see my car dropped about an inch.
I don't think I'll do anything with the intake or ECU since I'd like to keep the warranty intact for now.
Fabryce??

If you want to be able to keep your factory ECU settings for any future warranty issues, you can go with a Softronic flash. Not only is it 'fitted' to incorporate your mods, you can also keep a copy of your stock ECU map for future use. If you ever have to, you can reflash back to your stock map right from your laptop. I'm seriously considering going with the Softronic now (currently have GIAC), as it's supposed to be more suited to the other mods I have...
As for the AWE mods, you'll be very pleased with them. Can't imagine driving my car without 'em.

I'm hearing conflicting stories on the Softronic flash regarding the dectectability by Porsche. Some say that Porsche can detect previous flash even if it has been reflashed to stock. Sounds probable to me. Anyone have definitive answer on this one?
LeNoah, I may need to sell my AWE Cats, any interest?
I have the Fabspeed on a 996TT that I just purchased but it is a bit too loud for my taste on the street. I have heard good things about the Tubi system and the Porsche dealer in my neck of the woods recommends and installs them. For myself, I may end up going back to the stock that came with the car.
This may apply to all others yet not Softronic. Those that say it is are not fully educated in the subject. So the definitive answer is, no it is not detectable. Stock or original is just that with Softronic, bit for bit.
The reason that it is installed on a computer is it actually re-writes the file when used and does not switch between an altered file in the DME. Switching software or other devices actually switch to another section of an altered file. This file once written is then always altered or never stock. This applies to trial software also.
my dealership did the giac flash and evo intake and told me that if any warranty issues came up they would switch back to stock and still cover me....of course if i move away i might be screwed,...but you might look into doing some of the mods at the dealership and they may back up your warranty after the mods...if you do them elsewhere, they may not..
