Our New VW Phaeton *PICS*
Those cars are such a trip. I drove a black/black W12 with some aftermarket wheels and that thing ROCKED. I'd love for my dad to get one - and I'd go with the V8, too. If I'm going to pay to maintain a V12, it's going to be on an exotic.
Those wheels are bad though... change those and you've got a bad ****.

Welcome to the club! My dad has had a '04 for the past two years and LOVES it. It's a good thing too because these guys depreciate like none other. At least it gives a chance to own an incredible car for a bargain. If you ever have any questions or need any info, check out the Phaeton section on vwvortex.com if you haven't already. The amount of info there is incredible and they have quite a few very knowledgable members.
The interior makes you want to leave your house and move inside the vehicle.
Even Maybach-ish...
I heard nothing but bad things about this vehicle, as far as parts being very costly. Can the owners confirm?

oh,
sounds good. Where are these cars for under 30k? I would love "baller" status for that cheap.

Try ebay. I've seen many fire off in the $20s. Maintenance isn't for the weak at heart though...the same person that can "afford" a $25,000 Honda probably can't afford a $25,000 Phaeton.
I looked at plenty and everything for under $40k is not kept up well. You can find a really nice one for 45-55k just make sure it's CPO.
In all seriousness, I looked at used Phaetons in Canada, but stopped when I found out that VW of Canada does not offer extended warranty programs for the Phaeton. That says something! I bought a used Touareg earlier this summer and it had about $3k in electrical gremlins fixed within the first month of ownership.
