Kineses 3 piece

Hi I'm a new member here. Great site.

I have a set of 3 piece Kineses 3 piece wheels (K27's I think) and the centers have been custom painted. I would now like to change the center color and have 3 options:

1. Pay a reuptable store to have them redone. Expensive.
2. Self dissassemble and have a recommended paint shop pain the centers.
3. Self dissassemble and paint it myself.

I am attempting to dissassemble the wheels myself first and then decide where to go from there. The problem that i am having is that I have taken off the nuts from the back of the wheel (40 per wheel) but I have not been able to take the studs/bolts out from the front yet. Does anyone know if these are threaded? Do I just need to unscrew them or need to hammer (tap) them out? These are expensive wheels and I do not want to damage them. I also have 2 bolts that have snapped. One was already like it when I looked at it and one was my own fault as I tightened instead of loosening the first bolt on my own. These are expensive wheels and I do not want to damage them. I just want to make a cosmetic change to them. Any suggestions on what/how I should do? I am also looking for someone to supply the 2 snapped bolts as well as the tourque specs to reassemble the wheels. Thanks

BTW my tires are currently mounted on the wheels as well.

You're better off having a professional do the assembly and re-assembly. You cannot re-use the fasteners and nuts as they are for one time use only. The new fasteners need to be torqued according to spec by the manufacturer. Not a good thing to try to save money on $$$ wheels in my opinion. Hope this helped!

Hi, I didnt realize that the fasteners and nuts can't be reused. If that is the case then I am out of luck and will need to pay the pros to do it. Seems odd though as they look like normal fasterners and nuts. I would think that if I torqued everything to the factory specs then i should be just as good as if someone else did it for me. I was looking for some self gratification as well as saving a few bucks.

Thanks

Hello Angman,

I would definitely send it to the manufacturer and have it done correctly. As a rule, when we disassemble a wheel we always use new assembly hardware. Consider it cheap insurance. Unlike a motor, clutch, or rearend, if a wheel fails the result will not be pretty.

Also, it sounds like you have already successfully taken apart the wheels, but just in case, please remember to let all the air out of the tire before unbolting the center. I don't want to hear about your trip to the ER

Unfortunately we can't work on other wheels due to liability reasons, but if you have any questions don't hesitate to call or email me.
