Best way to ship wheel/tire combo?

All - What is the best method to cost effectively ship a mounted tire/wheel combo? I have an OEM set of 18" Viper GTS wheels I need to get from my town home in Chicago to my dads house in Kansas.

Let me know, thanks.

Josh

I have had wheels and tires delivered by UPS ground. The 2 wheels were placed facing each other with a piece of foam or multiple cardboard in between. Then they are strapped (taped) tightly together through the hub in at least 3 places. It is going to cost around $200 to ship. Maybe more now that gas is going up. Let us know how you handle it.

I always FedEx. No real cost effective way, because there are only a few companies that you can ship with.

I was also wondering this. I had UPS trash a rim once- it was in the manufacturers box, double wall cardboard and thin foam. They said because there wasn't 3" of packing around the entire item that they would not pay the claim.

Bare tires are one think. How does UPS/FedEx want to see mounted wheels so that they will pay a claim in the event they run a forklift into it???

You want to properly wrap the tires and rims. don't ship them like this.
