21s on a CLS55 AMG
21s on a CLS55 AMG
Got some input from others. ??? is Ive seen 21s in pics on 06 CLS55 AMGs but was wondering what tires others are running and/or issues w/ rubbing and the like. Any input appreciated?
Certain wheels and applications have fitments that are reality and functonality...a CLS55 is a car that is a true performance machine, the application you can run on this car in a 20" is the best application for appearance, and functionality...the Front wheels take a 20x9.0 and use a 245/30-20 tire and the rear allows a 20x11.0 with a 305/25-20 tire. This application fits the CLS55 and allows the car to use the full function of the ABC and also allows the car to be lowered with minimal to no modification (meaning no further fender rolling).
By running a 21" you are only exposing the use and size of having a 21" on a car that has a functional maximum fit of 20"...the reality of fitting this application you limit the performance...you will most likely need to cut the bolt that hangs over the front suspension, and drive the car with the ABC button off leaving the car in the raised position...the tires and application will end up being almost an inch taller in overall diameter...the front wheels will most likely be a 21x8.5 and the rear will be a 21x10.0 this application is not a performance application, this is only a size attraction.
Tuners like BRABUS, Lorinser, and Carlsson work with the performance tire manufactures and they test the most extreme functional applications and 20" is the leading maximum application produced by those tuners.
If you need to start cutting functional suspension parts off the car then I would recommend not doing it.

I hope this information is useful

We concur with Jim at Nutek. 21s are not a good solution for the CLS (I happen to own an '07 CLS and actually prefer 19s for the combo of ride and handling).
The chassis of the C219 CLS offers a similar offset application that is the same for the R230 SL chassis...which means the car allows you to run an aggressive offset with the properly matched tires in a 19 or 20".
