going to a lower profile

Hey guys,

I am considering going from a 255/50/17 to a 255/40/17 and other than a degradation in ride quality (how bad I don't know)....is the overall width of the tire is still affected when going up and down in the sidewall length?

This page has always been very helpful when shopping for tires.

50 is pretty high imho. On a 17 inch rim, I would go with either a 45 or 40 depending on the width (245 or 255). The ride quality will be fine with a 40 series tire.

Great site!

It seems going to a 275/40 17 is very close to specs when compared to my current size. It might be a little too wide for my rims though (8.5").
