shipping tires
the cheapest way to ship tires is to bind two tires at a time. i shipped 18" tires for $65 / pair via fedex but ups was the same price. usps was a little more expensive.
if you're buyer is flexible, greyhound is probably even cheaper.

I ship a lot of things and I've found Fed Ex is very rarely cheaper than UPS. It very occasionally will be if the address is near a distribution center though.
UPS is charging me 35-44 dollars per tire and FED EX quote me via automated answering service with the standard rate base on dimension, width, and weight for $25 or more per tire. Looks like i'm going to FED EX.

Agreed on the banding. If banded, freight is only a few more dollars to do two than one unless they are too heavy.

I just shipped a single 19" Michelin tire to a buyer in CT from GA. UPS wanted $56 for one tire! I think the guy was new and didn't know what he was talking about. I took it down the street to Fed Ex - $24 done. I've had good luck with UPS in the past, but this episode turned me off.
