Has anyone ever taken HRE 3 piece wheels apart?
Has anyone ever taken HRE 3 piece wheels apart?
I have a set of 18" HRE Comp97's for my 996TT and I wanted to paint/powdercoat/anodize the center in a flat gray or lexus ggp with a clear coat and am thinking about taking them apart. Has anyone ever done this as a DIY and if so what torque specs or procedues did you follow? Any help would be great?
Thanks.

I've only taken apart "at least" 100-sets of HRE wheels LOL,,,
Best if you use an experienced shop: www.fastforwardwheels.com
You need to be familiar with the torque settings for each wheel, resurface the hoops prior to assembly and use the correct sealant. HRE will also recommend using new hardware whenever taking wheels apart.
We charge $200 on 3-pc wheels for paint (hard-bake) and polish (minor repairs are included). Here's an example of an HRE 542, we made all the minor corrections such as bends and curb rash, broke them down, finished the centers in High Gloss Black, Polished Lips, Brushed rear barrels at $200 per each.
WE SPECIALIZE IN WORKING ON NEW AND USED WHEELS, WE HAVE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. WE PROVIDE SERVICES FOR NEW WHEEL MANUFACTURES AS WELL AS USED WHEELS.
One visit to our site and you'll know you're in good hands! www.fastforwardwheels.com

Call us if you have any questions about our finishing process,
-Eli

Vnt... Give us a call if you need anything. We will be more then glad to help you out and this is something we do on a daily basis with our own wheels as well as for many of the private labels we cut wheels for.
Hello VNT,
Give us a call and let us put together a quote for you. We are fair priced and the job will be done correctly and the work will be backed by HRE.
One thing I would recommend is that you have the runout checked prior to sending in your wheels so we can include that in the price for you if needed. If you do have wheel portion that is bent we simply replace the part. We do this because the methods used to straighten a wheel reduces the integrity of a forged and heat treated part and sooner than later that piece will fail. This may also happen if care is not taken when refinishing the wheel. The center forging can actually be ruined and a failure may result.
Our standard colors are all powder coated here in house. We can also color match the centers if you wish, but it will be painted and not as durable.
You can call me directly and I will get you in touch with our customer service dept.
I look forward to speaking with you.
