Uneven tire wear- back only

Hello,

I've only owned by '05 C2S Cab for a couple months and I recently noticed that my back right tire has becoming a racing slick while the back left tire is about at the wear bar (Bridgestone Potenza 295 RE050) Does anyone know why the right tire would wear faster than the right? I never noticed before because I only looked at the driver's side tire and assumed they would be the same.

Also, I reached my hand in on both and felt metal on the inside edge of the tires, much more on the more worn tire. Obviously, this is a sign of tire that has been on way too long, but is it also a sign of something else? This completely freaked me out and feel lucky not to have had a blowout or other.
I'm having 2 new ones installed tomorrow AM, which can't get here fast enough.

Any insight would be appreciated.

DoctorD is infamous around these parts
My Turbo S eats tires; I've been told this is characteristic of all late-model Porsche cars. The insides go first, due to the negative camber Porsche sets the cars up with. It helps keep them from swapping ends with the rear-engine configuration.

Apparently they eat rear tires at about a 2:1 ratio to front tires. Why yours is worse on the right side? Don't know!

It's only "normal" on vehicles out of adjustment. Check your air pressure and when you get your new tires, have a 4-wheel alignment done and decrease your camber if necessary. They may wear fast, if you are running a soft compound, but they should be wearing evenly. I have two, have had 4, and always keep the tires wearing evenly and much longer than many people who don't pay close attention to the pressure, balancing and alignment.

Ever seen the stock alignment specs on a late-model Porsche car?
Rear camber is one of the ways they keep these cars from trying to swap ends. My NSX used to eat rear tires as well.

Rear camber can be decreased somewhat, at the expense of handling and perhaps a little unintended oversteer. You have to pay to play with these cars. Most Turbo guys are lucky to see 10K out of rear tires.
