Can side walls be torn during mounting?

During mounting, can the side wall be torn or ripped?

Yes. If the tech does not use a lubricant to help the tire slide onto the wheel, the machine could possibly damage the tire.

yep it happened to me. they installed a tire, i drove off two blocks... and boom it went.

I would recommend watching while they do that sort of work. I've seen some tires go without "lube" and yes this will be bad......

One of my tires got damaged when it was taken OFF the rim. Of course, it was an old tire by then, but I would imagine similar risks when mounting.

Mistakes can be made by anyone, it would fall under user error most of the time. I can't tell you the stories my buddy would tell me when he worked at an auto-lube place. They replaced several dry-motors in the time he worked there. . . . .
