Decided to get a set of Champion wheels but they of course arrived after I had already shipped my car off 300 miles to the closest dealer for some work. The wheels are Champion with a polished lip that is clearcoated




So now that it'll be a week or so before I can get these put on, what can I do preventive-wise? wax them, use rejex? never had polished lips before and just looking for pointers...

 

Since they will be clearcoated, you can use anything that you would on the paint of your car for lips. I'll let someone who has clearcoated lips chime in on a good procduct to use, but a good coat of wax should do.

 

I use Rejex on my higher end detail on the wheels. It works great. Just let it sit on for about 20 minutes and wipe it off.

 

did the rejex thing last night - travelling to Dallas to pickup the car this weekend and bringing the new wheels with me so they can mount them.

 

Good looking wheels - are these the 19" Champion Type II from Brandywine. They look a lot like the Champion RS128's but the 128's only come in 20 inch. What were you having done in Dallas?

 

Man am I frustrated Took these all the way to Dallas, i.e. drove instead of flew, and come to find out they won't fit the 996tt. Adding up the offsets, everything should've worked with the Porsceh OEM 17mm rear spacers like the sport technos did but what we failed to realize is that the Champion wheels don't have the cutouts on the inside to fit over the bolts that connect the spacers to the hub. The Porsche tech and I tried several different options and did some brainstorming with just about everyone there but nothing

These wheels were exactly what I was looking for but they don't work so I'm going to have to return them up to Tommy @ Brandywine.

jnbrennan - i was getting some warranty work at Park Place and was planning on looking at a pre-owned Fcar they had listed but it was unavailable(getting service at another dealer).

 

I thought there were 15mm to 17mm spacers available that had the mounting bolts countersunk. Have you looked at what FVD has - I think they have 15mm or 18mm spacers that don't need mounting bolts. Also, Boothe Design may have some alternatives for you. I wouldn't give up yet as long as the offsets are OK. The wheels look great.

looks like Boothe has the countersunk version and FVD has the one with the longer bolts. i'm guessing that it's prob more secure to go with the Boothe version?

 

Call Ralph Boothe and discuss - he's a great guy to talk to and should be able to tell you if his spacers will work. Good luck.
