The Dodge Hellcat is Sandbagging

Sandbagging mother…. I knew when Dodge released the Hellcat horsepower and torque figures they were sandbagging! So the factory states that the Hellcat motor is good for 707 horsepower at the crank, and figuring for a 20% driveline loss, that comes to be around 600 hp at the wheels.

Well the good folks over at MotorTrend got their hands on the Hellcat for a bit of fun over the last few weeks. I know they’ve had this for a while now since I follow Jonny Lieberman on Twitter where he’s been posting all sorts of pics with it.

MotorTrend took the Hellcat to the dyno and found out that the car is actually making around 635 hp and 591 lb-ft of torque! HOLY SMOKES! Literally. When you plug that number back into the driveline loss calculation that comes out to be around 722 hp and 672 lb-ft of torque!

What’s even crazier is that MotorTrend took the Hellcat to the dyno at K&N and ran a top speed run to see what it would do in the most perfect of conditions, and it ran all the way up to 225 mph!

Unfortunately, the shape and lack of aero, and weight of the Challenger won’t let it do those numbers in reality. But credit where credits due, Dodge you guys killed it with this car. Now I just need to figure out how I can play with this car ASAP!
