AWE Tuning Porsche Turbo Performance Intercoolers... in Final Development
The AWE Tuning 991 Turbo Performance Intercoolers are in R&D. A good chance to show you what goes on behind the scenes. Keep in mind we have just transitioned between our old building and new, so the pictures might have some different backgrounds as this thread progresses!
Bumper off, FaroArm on. Our portable coordinate-measuring-machine reveals the domain in which we can work our magic. We’ll use this data to optimize the size of our intercoolers and craft carbon fiber inlets for maximum efficiency.
What you see below is the result of a FaroArm scanning session, rendered in Geomagic Design X. With explicit details of the original components available, our engineering team then gets to work crafting a superior intercooler solution to increase power and reduce IATs. Our 991 Turbo Performance Intercoolers will be offered with the AWE Tuning Fitment Guarantee.
We use rapid prototypes to bring our optimized designs to life for fitment verification and performance proving. With shrouds in place, it’s time to strap our project 991 Turbo S to our dyno, BRB.
You can sign up here to be contacted upon release.
If you have any questions, as always, let me know!
Stay tuned for our next update.

AWE Tuning Porsche Turbo Performance Intercoolers... in Final Development
Excited to see the aftermarket all working hard to bring intercoolers for these cars to the market. Heaven knows these cars need them if you're going to tune and want the most performance out of them in terms of horsepower, consistent performance over many runs and top end power.

The wait is almost over.
We were invited out to Woodward Camp by pro skater, Joey Brezinski to hang out and liven things up for the crowd of young athletes. The trip was a great opportunity to field test the real world effectiveness of our Performance Intercoolers in conjunction with the full catalog of AWE Tuning 991 Turbo S performance parts. The intercoolers performed admirably, and we can’t wait to move forward with the launch, coming up in a very short time.

Which tune are you pairing with these intercoolers?

Wouldn't it be great if we could get comparative times out of cars modified with all three of the aftermarket intercoolersl at this meet?

so all intercoolers are not created equal
the intercoolers in and of themselves do not create power they just enable the tuners to be more aggressive with the mapping? and keep the temperatures down so the ECU doesnt pull timing? Ok I'm trying to educate myself.

1. Intercoolers are not created equal. Each of the competitors' intercoolers will have different cooling capacities and different price points.
I cannot speak to the cooking capacity of the AWE and ByDesign intercoolers. The Champion intercoolers installed in my car were so effective in cooling capacity that even with the big tune in my car (the GIAC Stage 2 plus), intake air temps never exceeded 105 degrees. That is super cool for IATs.
2. Intercoolers do not create power. They are basically giant radiators whose job is to cool the air exiting the turbos that is then returning to the engine. If the air is not sufficiently cooked by the intercoolers the ECU will cut timing/boost to keep intake air temps from getting too high which can, among other things, damage the turbos.
3. Big effective intercoolers allow the tuner to turn up the boost more without fear of creating intake air temps that are too high.
The stock intercoolers in the 991 TTS are too small to handle the extra heat generated by the increased turbo boost from a high power tune. What happens is that due to insufficient cooking capacity the intake air temps get too high which causes the ECU to cut boost and timing to protect the engine/turbos.

Appreciate the anticipation, Scott! G.I.A.C Stage 2 software was paired with the ICs on our 991TTS.
