Exclamation Read this before you order a new Alternator and save 1.000 euros!!!

Red Warning that the generator is off and my TT it was dead on the side of the road a few km after....
The official Porsche dealer here in Athens send me help in only 15 minutes and they do not charge me for this, Great service Bravo and Thanks!
After 1 hour of waiting on the workshop they told me that I need to buy a new Alternator and the price for a re-manufactured alternator is 1080 euros and for a new one 1.600 euros , in any case the labor will be 114 euros....
I ask them to take of the old one and give it to me in order to find a new one by myself, after all it was just a BOSCH part....
I went the alternator to a small BOSCH Hella shop and they found in no time that the alternator was in a very good condition and the only thing needed it has a small part coled voltage regulator and it cost (genuine BOSCH part) 80 euros only and 2 minutes to replace it!!!
So I went back to the dealer half an hour later with the alternator and one hour after this and with 200 euros total cost my car it was as good as new again!
So my friends, before the dealer ask you to pay for a new or re-manufactured alternator, check your old one first

All the best
Lefteris

Nice job!!! I have a feeling I might be in the same situation soon as I noticed that my alternator was not charging for about 30 seconds when I started it up one time. Hope my fix is as simple as that!!!

I noticed the charge light on start up a few months back, it was the drive belt slipping ($26)

Nice tip! I had something similar when I first purchased my car. Luckily I found a reman for $400US but this would have been much cheaper!

I didn't notice a charge light (not sure where that is) but I noticed the Volt gauge was at 12 v instead of the usual 13.5-14v. I'll have to take a look at my belt and see the condition of it. Thanks for the heads up.

+1 plenty of alternator/starter rebuilt shops that can fix these for cheap. Main thing that goes on the alrernators are the regulators, brushes or bearings. I bet you could also source these parts off of ebay as long as you know what to look for.
