996tt vs 997tt rods question

has someone test the strength and can show a picture between 996tt and 997tt rods? just curious cuz i see lots of folk with 997.1 putting down 800whp++ stock engine and being reliable!

997tt can run more boost and has a 9.0CR compared to 996tt 9.4CR, also the intake manifold is better up on top delivering some more hp.. lifters are better and can run safely more rpms (assuming some gt30s or bigger turbos that continue to make power after 7000), etc...

For your power level and especially A28 adding rods is mandatory, it's not IF will bend but WHEN will bend

stock rods + 800whp++ and being reliable ?! I dont think so.. maybe just in the best ambient conditions, using only racegas and that till 4th gear only.. and that for how long ? how much means reliable ? 100.000 Km seems reliable to me

They are the same as I verified the internal engine PNs from 997tt and the rods PNs start with 996xxxxxxx

There are causes and effects, bending rod is an effect, the causes can be a detonation for example, having 9.0 CT instead of 9.4 will allow to run more boost and will deliver more power in the end.. what i was trying to say is 800whp on a 996tt is not the same with 800whp on 997tt for some various reasons, some of them i told you before

and in the end it's not the WHP that is bending rods but torque... and your turbos deliver a lot of torque down low

My mistake... I was looking at 997 NA

997tt has its own rods PN G99710392070, maybe stronger...

The 997 ecu is way better then the 996.. The rods are different, however if you put rods in a 997 you use 996 rods and 993 bearings. The cr of .4 less has less cylinder psi on compression and that is where most rods fail.

so understanding the facts we have less margin of error in 996 vs 997 cuz of compression but in therm of strength there about the same

roger that thx Tim
