help me 2002 (45000miles) vs 2004 x50 (92000miles)
I'm thinking of selling my tip and buying an x50
my current tip
2002 996 turbo 45000 miles
slate grey with graphite grey
new tires rotors brakes
coolant lines pinned
great service and records
factory aero
radiators unknown but cleaned them recently
997 wheels
pss10 suspension
2004 996 turbo x50 manual
92000 miles
new clutch at 60000
newer tires
all maintenance history
coolant lines have not been pinned
radiators unknown
forgeline wheels
black on black with sport seats
claims no 2nd gear pop
gt2 wing and aero rockers
aftermarket exhaust (unkwown make until I see it later this week)
no other mods
will have cantrell motorsports do ppi next week
there's probably more that i'm leaving out but just wondering what others might do. I just cant seem to really love the tip (even though I do love it) but like I told my wife every time I get in the car I search for the clutch)
i can tell you this I bought the tip for 40000 and think i can sell it for around that much
the x50 is selling for 32000. I couldn't freakin believe it and it's 20 minutes from my house. it has clean carfax and has documented history and maintenance.
so lay it on me

Seems to be a pretty solid deal for that kind of mileage. It may need some extra work though. Suspension bushings, new shocks, new bearings. It might be worth it to find a car with lower mileage.

32k makes it close to a great deal even after a new clutch and some other upkeep. If the x50 is what you want go for it! You never know 30,000 dollar 996 turbos may be going the way of the dinosaur lol
Good luck

Getting rid of a car you know very well and replacing it with a car you hardly know at all is a questionable action.
What does your dear wife think about you getting rid of the Tip equipped Turbo and replacing it with a manual Turbo?
General rule of used car buying is to have set aside 10% of the car's purchase price to have just in case, so for that $32K X50 you need around $3K in reserve.
Also, I'm not current on Turbo market prices but an X50 for $32K? Sounds a bit low. If so that's also a red flag.
But if you have to have a 6-speed and the X50 floats your boat go light the fires and kick the tires. If the car passes a thorough road test and a used car check out and the PPI finds nothing to kill the deal get the X50.

I love my 3 pedal 6 speed. Could not imagine having a Tip (except when I am sitting in bumper to bumper traffic). Only thing I would trade it for would be a Pdk. You should go drive it and then follow your heart. These cars aren't about convenience. They are about driving and enjoying it.

Ya he's holding for me right now. I was the 1st to call but as you might imagine he was inundated with calls and has taken it off market. I will go drive and if I like will take for ppi at Cantrell. If that looks good I'll have a decision to make.

As others have said, the low price is a red flag but he needs to sell due to kids so you may get a steal. Anticipate needing to do some maintenance though.
Let us know how it goes!

I saw the car you're speaking about (the one with the additional badges on the trunk lid right?)

ya i will i'll see all the service records and drive it later this week. it's in the shop getting a new alternator right now. he tells me he's maintained the hell out of it. ultimately I'll have to make a decision but I'm leaning toward just keeping what I have. if it has been well maintained and it checks out at cantrell then 32000 seems like a pretty good deal.
it was bought from park place about 3 years ago with 62000 for 49000. I guess it all depends on the maintenance and current condition.
we shall see!!!! thanks for the input

Interesting to see what it "looked like" 3 years ago.
Things I can notice to how it is now
1. Added additional badging in the rear (why?!?)
2. Front lip got destroyed haha
3. Paint still looks in good shape
Good luck!
