Thumbs up EVOMS Latest 997TT Project: 9000 RPM’s, 4.0L and 1100 HP. Details Inside

Since we have already developed a 102.6mm 3.8L and a 104mm 3.9L conversion, we decided to take the next step and build a 4.0L and 4.1L. Our 104mm, 3.9L conversion was designed specifically for the normally aspirated GT3 engines and our 102.6mm bore 3.8L pistons and cylinders for the turbo applications. in order to increase the turbo engines displacement beyond 3.8L, while maintaining the strength needed for a high power turbo applications, we needed a longer stroke crankshaft to complete the conversion. In typical EVOMS fashion, building just a longer stroke crank would not suffice. We had one CNC machined from billet 4340 high alloy steel and used technology commonly found in 12,000 RPM race engines. Our lightweight race crankshaft has been engineered using technology from top level competition engines and incorporates features that go well beyond that of the OEM specifications. Listed below are some general specifications that went into building this work of art:
  • CNC Machined from billet 4340 high alloy steel
  • 2-stage Ion-nitride hardening process
  • Controlled Displacement Micro (CDM) polished
  • Multi-Rate rod journal oiling system
  • 12 Radially Profiled counterweights
  • Lightened & dynamically balanced counterweights
  • 80% stronger in tensile strength vs. OEM crankshaft
  • ~12% lighter than the OEM crankshaft
  • Capable of rotating well beyond 10,000 RPM’s
Here are some pictures of our billet race crankshaft as compared to the OEM turbo crankshaft.

We will go into more details about each of the bulleted points above in a later post. We will be documenting this entire build and we will be testing this engine extensively before we offer this crankshaft conversion for customer conversions. Here we go pushing the envelope once again Another MONSTER will be born shortly.

Dang it Todd... Just when I thought I was close to being done with my mods... Now you come up with this!
Looks great, I wonder what the competition out there is going to try and make, some heavy duty plastic light weight rods and crank? I shouldn't have said that...

Here are some details on our long stroke 102.6mm pistons for the 4.0L conversion. We have spent the past 2.5 years perfecting the piston crown design and we have incorporated some new coatings to further improve the efficiency.

Our pistons have a thermal barrier crown coating that is applied to the top of the pistons which is designed to reflect heat / deflect combustion shock away from the piston and into the combustion chamber. This coating increases exhaust gas velocity and greatly improves scavenging potential. The .0015" thick coating can also assist in extending piston life by decreasing the rate of thermal transfer.

Our raised dome piston design further improves efficiency by increasing the amount of material where the spark ignites the combustion cycle. This raised area better deflects the spark energy and helps to disperse it evenly over the entire piston.

Our pistons are produced with an anti-friction layer of material that acts as a lubricating, anti-wear coating which is applied to the piston skirt only. This coating further improves piston to cylinder wear efficiency and improves piston life.

Not sure. Depending on when I have to set up my meetings for the month. So far, not too sure. Probably all full though, did not register.

I guess I should be scared. Wait, huh oh yea, I like competing with myself If we at EVOMS did not keep pushing on, I would get bored. There really is no reason for this - wait, OF COURSE THERE IS. Sh1t, I'm confused.
