Porsche dealer not creating DME reports?
Hello everybody!
I am in the process of buying a certified 2008 C2S. I asked the dealer for a DME report and they say they don't usually create those reports and that the car has never had a check engine light on. They also mentioned that even if they had it scanned it would just say "no faults exist".
Is this correct? I thought they had to get a DME scan as part of the CPO process...
Your comments are very much appreciatted!!
Thank you

With the new diagnostic system the dealer cannot print out the DME like they did a couple years ago on my 2007 CPO'ed purchase. Now cooperative dealers will take a picture of the screen with the pertinent info which is rev ranges and send to you. Or if you are local ask have them run it while you are present.
When did they implement the new diagnostic system? I bought my car in June of last year and received a copy of the printout emailed to me.
Report was clean... nothing in the rev ranges 3+ seems to be a good indicator of health.

I was told the same by a dealer that had a very nice car but I didn't believe that they couldn't do a rev report and, thinking they were being misleading or dishonest, I walked away. Had I known this is normal now, I would have at least given it more thought.
FWIW if you are looking at a PDK it is impossible to exceed ignitions beyond range 1.
The only usable information in a DME scan is over revs on a manual transmission car.

The dealer's DME scan would indicate if there were faults...it also displays the readout (over-revs) from Ranges 1 through 6.
When they CPO a car, they probably look at these Ranges, but don't record the values (btw, in case you don't already know this, don't let the dealer tell you that getting this done is a big deal --- it takes about 2 seconds to do the scan). I just purchased a CPO ('09 4S) and the dealer did a DME scan upon my request. When I arrived at the dealer I did my own DME scan using my Durametric cable (as NorthVan points out). Fortunately, both scans matched perfectly.

I had my ranges read in my 11 GTS. The tech said I would need to take a photo of the rev ranges. That's what I did
There were 551 in range 1 and 1 in range 2. The range 2 number seems unlikely to be a valid read. That's only a third of a revolution.

If the dealer won't let you see the DME report (for whatever stupid reason they come up with), run, run as fast as you can. And make sure you do a burnout in their parking lot.

Could somebody explain what range 1-6 means? I am assuming range 1 is lower and range 6 would be bad.... Thanks.
A 997-1 DME records the following rev ranges:
Range 1: 7300-7500 RPM
Range 2: 7500-7700 RPM
Range 3: 7700-7900 RPM
Range 4: 7900-8400 RPM
Range 5: 8400-9500 RPM
Range 6: 9500-11000 RPM
Range 1: 7300-7500 RPM
Range 2: 7500-7700 RPM
Range 3: 7700-7900 RPM
Range 4: 7900-8400 RPM
Range 5: 8400-9500 RPM
Range 6: 9500-11000 RPM
Thank you all very much. I finally got the DME scans. They couldn't print out a report so they sent me pictures taken from the computer.
I will post the results right now on a different message. If you can give me feedback, I would appreciate it!
Thank you again!
