Aftermarket Amplifier install keeping PCM 3 Bose head unit
#31
1) Was there any programming/wiring to be done or was it directly plug and play?
2) Was there any change in sound or performance?
3) Was there an improvement in sound and performance?
Thanks

Thanks for the feedback.
That's what I thought about the pcm conversion. I respect that you've done it, but I think the cost is crazy. You can do a lot to the audio system for $5k! After the pcm you still have the poor amp and speakers!
It is interesting that people would use a harness to adapt a new head unit to the old Bose amp. Why the heck would anyone do that?
Adopted a Burmester huh? Now that would be a real waste of money! How much do they get for those units???

next thing - most my installations are cayennes, and there bose system dramatically improve sound quality compared to stock non-bose, so some add 3000$ to install bose plus to pcm3... and more for tv, for rearview camera
nobody adopt pcm3 to old optical bose since it just not play in new system, amp is also new, and sounds better than old version
used burmester amp costs ~same as used bose amp. speakers wasnt available, buying new for used car - sure crazy
well, it was just p&p test, but for normal performance wiring needs to be changed - for example front become rear, rear become front.. so noticeable sound improvement will be after correction, and changing speakers to burmester... well known that burmester sounds much better than bose... coding on old car is not possible, but amp is seen by piwis as bose with some exeptions...

Has anyone actually looked behind the installed Bose unit in our USA cars? Is there any access actually there other than the amp outputs and the communications in/outs?
I remember reading a long time ago that there is just no access to line-level, pre-am outs. The sockets and or wires are just not exposed.
Peace

When you say no point in adopting optical Bose to PCM3 - is that because the PCM3 is no longer an optical interface? That's interesting. As I've said, I get plenty of power from the PCM3 Bose amp, so don't have much interest in changing it. Not sure if a Burmester Porsche amp would have significant benefit over a good JLAudio amp or comparable, at a fraction of the cost.
Thanks for sharing the experiences.

about insane... not all unfortunately in fact most of owners when choosing from "factory diagnosicable expensive" and "chinese cheap crap" choose third - not to do anything

as i understand it from other forums, this is the only off the shelf solution that enables you to go back to the OEM headunit at a later stage:

New head unit and amp could both be replaced without any permanent modifications. Easy to go back to stock.
I just ordered one.

like this one? and how much they charges for it? it not replaces amp - it omit it. different thing.

Hmm, neither of those harnesses look like they would plug in to the back of my PCM3. Something isn't right.
Edit - I see a spot where another 8-pin connector could go on the PCM but the pins are missing. This is on a PCM3 w/ Bose, US version. Have a feeling we are missing the circuitry for the pre-outs.
