997 wide body

No - "S" has nothing to do with body width - 997.1 wide bodies are:
C4
C4S
Turbo
Targa
GT3RS
GT2
Some other special models - I'm sure I left out.

That's like asking do I need a Porsche? C4 is heavier but gives the safety comfort of all wheel drive but unless you're driving a lot in inclement weather, C2 will be OK. So do you need it...maybe, maybe not, up to you.

never drove a Porsche with all wheel drive
Live in California no snow no rain no weather just earth quakes maybe the all wheel drive will help after a major earth quake when the streets are all messed up

Hahahaa..... I laughed out loud
That being said, I have a 997 C4s and love the car (and the AWD).
Widebody is awesome, and NEVER goes out of style
gratuitous widebody rear shot

AWD is like insurance -- you'll never know when it will save you.
Love my wide body.

C4S comes with LSD
I am not sure about the 997.1, but all 997.2, besides the wide body, the 4 wheel drive models will also come with LSD (mechanical locking differential) as standard feature. It's a nice thing to have on tight mountain roads.

If a wide body is a must then you must get a Carrera 4 or 4S (in 997.1). If you go 997.2 then you can add GTS to the list.
All Turbos are wide bodies but you said you didn't want a Turbo. Not sure about the GT2/3, etc.
