Dealer RunARound on Build- advice please

First I order and down pay on an S with a March build and a healthy percentage discount. Days later I get an invoice increase for an $1815 option which I requested, in writing, only if available for $480. Instead of reducing invoice as I request, they say car no longer available to me. I am to build new one but they have no idea about date of allocation.

Head spinning and losing footing, I build a slightly different vehicle and beg them for an early build. Numerous emails and calls to salesman, finance man, and manager go unanswered for a whole week.

Now miraculously the March car is available and they're willing to eat $1000 off the option. Wife says just do it. I'd probably prefer (just by a smidgen) the car they had me build but have never addressed and seem to have no date for.

What say? These guys clearly not good but have my money and the build date I want. How can I best hold their feet to fire on March build date- how do I really know that Porsche is set to build as I have so little confidence in these folks. thanks for thoughts. feeling like a real country bumpkin here

hulahula is on a distinguished road
Insert obligatory Jerry Lundegaard quote

"Well...he never done this before. My boss said I can take $100 off of that Truecoat!"

If you want it, you want it. If the build date slips, there isn't much you can do except take back the deposit and walk away. You can try to negotiate some kind of penalty but either they wouldn't go for it or it wouldn't be worth your time to get it enforced.

Also, Porsche North America might be screwing this up. It has been known to happen.

I never had this kind of problem with my dealer but Denver has two. I think the competition keeps them honest. What is the name of your dealer? Maybe others have experience.

I agree with your wife. Take the original and enjoy. Ask for the Pro Forma Invoice as it will show the build as PCNA has it. A copy of one of mine is below. Attached is a list of codes that coincide with the red highlighted code below. Spacing isn't right due to changes from using copy & Paste. It will tell you the status of your car. Every so often ask them for an updated one.Porsche Codes.pdf

Thank you imcarnuts. Although I had a Report View paper from the dealer I did not realize it was confirmation of a real build, albeit with an option I did not approve. Nonetheless, as an informed buyer, I would have saved an entire week of dealer manipulations and nightmares. Very helpful post!

You guys seem to know that more often than not, we should go with what the wife has to say- they seem so unemotional about these sports cars in suv bodies- why is that?

I asked for a new Pro Forma Invoice on a weekly basis. The code I have in red will change as the order progresses from paperwork to actual build, on the ship, etc. Once built, it will have the VIN on it. Every time I changed my options (I had about six months from when I speced the car until it locked) I would get a new PFI to confirm the changes I made were accurately reflected at PCNA.
As far as the wife goes, I've been married for 34 years due to the PAAP theory of marriage - Peace At Any Price.
