RSR styled widebody 997 GT3 (lots of pics!)

EDIT***** I just updated more pictures of this car at a Chin Motorsports event at VIR on post #85 and #96 of this Thread************

Hi folks,

I just wanted to post up some pictures of a new to me 2007 997 GT3. This is not an RSR, or even a Cup car, but rather a GT3 that has some body styling to resemble the widebody look of the RSR. I bought this car used with 3900 miles, and the original owner did the majority of the modifications to this car. Ironically, my heavily modified 996 Turbo that I recently sold was also originally modified by this same seller.

Here is a little more background on this car. It started out as a heavily optioned 2007 Meteor Grey Metallic 997 GT3 that included such things as full leather interior, full carbon interior, Bi-Xenons, PCCB and NAV, all the way down to little things like carbon fiber illuminated door entry guards. Some people would consider this excessive, but if you knew the guy who built this car, this is just scratching the surface.

He then went on to add in custom body modifications. The most obvious are the metal welded fender flares that widened the rear by 3” and front by 2.5”. The front hood is a painted carbon fiber Gemballa hood. The side skirts are Gemballa as well. The rear decklid/wing weighs in at 7 lbs. and is a genuine carbon fiber Porsche Motorsports GT3 CUP product. It has a custom painted yellow roll cage with stitched leather GT3 badging. The wheels are massive custom HRE Competition C21’s wearing Toyo R888’s in 335/30 rears (before someone asks….its a 5 inch lip!) , and 245/40 fronts. To help ward off Officer Friendly, this car is equipped with K40 Calibre front and rear radar detectors/ laser diffusers in a stealth install.

After I bought the car, I sent it to the race shop that I trust the most, Synergy Racing at VIR to show it some love. These guys do amazing work with Porsches. I asked them to do some performance enhancements for me. This included adding a Porsche Motorsport Cup Car intake and filter to mate with the Porsche Motorsports Cup car decklid intake vent. They also upgraded various suspension components to 997 Cup Car suspension bits (control arms, toe links, drop links). They installed their own Synergy competition front sway bar and set it up to their competition balance and alignment specs. They also went ahead and put some Xpel protection on my headlights and 4 ply stack tear-offs to protect my front windshield. (There is more work still planned for this car in the spring of 2009)

Just like when I introduced my last car to this forum, I’ll again go ahead and acknowledge that this car isn’t for everybody. I already know that some of the “Porsche Purists” don’t like what was done to this car. But that’s okay, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I personally love the way this was built, and am absolutely crazy about the way it now performs. ALMS driver Patrick Long has driven this car once, and Rolex Grand Am driver Brian Frisselle has driven this car twice. According to Brian Frisselle, “This car handles just about like a race car.” And since he drives Daytona Prototypes for a living, that is a good enough compliment for me.

So without further adieu, here are the pictures of my RSR styled widebody GT3:

more pics on next post.

When I was at Synergy I saw this totally blacked out 997S that had just about every mod in the world done to it. It was bad ass! The owner is apparantly on 6speed....

And now, for some action shots......

Indeed that is Blakt Out's own 997S! Good eye....I was just testing to see who would recognize it!

And yes, Hendrick's had this car listed on Ebay earlier this past year.

Thanks for the tip.....I didn't know about that photo in "Total 911". I'll need to go pick up a copy.

BTW, Parade Charlotte is the first time I saw this car in person. It was for sale at that time and was being prominently displayed in front of the convention hotel.
