2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Extended Promo Video is Simply Stunning

A lot of words are going to be thrown at the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, the first one is from Porsche themselves: Unyielding.

When the last 911 GT2 RS was introduced in 2011 it became an instant legend. Its short production run ensured a place in the pantheon of Porsche. They bred a 620 hp rear wheel drive barely contained wolf to hunt down the GT-R at the Nurburgring.

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS promotional video

Now it’s back. We first heard about the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS at a video gaming expo earlier in the year. Porsches first promo videos appear to be inspired by that. We would go as far as suggesting the first section of this video is the racing game trailer that entertainment companies are trying to make.

This video seamlessly links Porsches 2018 911 GT2 RS promo videos together. If you haven’t seen them separately, the two drivers are Mark Webber and the legendary Walter Röhrl. When the first promos end, we get footage of just the car and driver on the track with the engine for a soundtrack. Finally, some static shots give us a good look around the car, both inside and out.

Porsche didn’t tell us much at E3, and the murky rumors were very murky indeed. However, now we have the facts after Porsche brought the GT2 RS to the Goodward Festival Of Speed.

Some things we now know:

For the 2018 911 GT2 RS, Porsche has forced 700 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque from their 911 Turbo S models 3.8-liter flat-six. Bigger turbos and some Porsche engineering in the weight department help push the 2018 911 GT2 RS to 100 kph in 2.8 seconds.

The term “a race car for the road” gets thrown around a lot. In the video, you’ll see that Porsche has taken the idea literally. Carbon fiber, magnesium and titanium are the ingredients for keeping weight down and strength up. If you want to max out those ingredients then the Weissach package is for you. A carbon fiber roof and anti roll bars along with magnesium wheels drop an extra 40 pounds of weight. That’ll cost you $31,000. A mere $775 per pound lost. Before the weight loss package, the car weighs just 3,241 pounds.

When it lands on American shores in early 2018 it’ll be priced at $294,250. A lot of money, but it’s a car that has the promise of becoming a legend.

His obsession with cars started young and has left him stranded miles off-road in Land Rovers, being lost far from home in hot hatches, going sideways in rallycross cars, being propelled forward in supercars and, more sensibly, standing in fields staring at classic cars. His first job was as a mechanic and then trained as a driving instructor before going into media production.

The automotive itch never left though, and he realized writing about cars is his true calling. However, that doesn’t stop him from also hosting the Both Hand Drive podcast.
