914/911 Mashup. Love it or Hate it?

Last summer I had the pleasant fortune to bump into a very interesting Porsche owner named Al.  Al has a passion for the Porsche 914. The 914 is not often held in the highest regards among Porsche owners. 914’s were an entry level mid engine coupe that replaced the 912 in 1969 offering both a 4 and 6 cylinder version.  The body work was not reminiscent of any other Porsche and people either seem to love it or hate it. Al has three 914’s that all have his personal touch and they each have their own personality.

By trade, Al builds Sea Kayaks and paddles using fiberglass and carbon fiber.  Having a background in composite fabrication, he decided to graft the easily recognizable headlight tunnels from a 1970’s 911 onto his latest 914. He used carbon fiber throughout, including a nicely modified engine deck vent that he says cool much more efficiently than the stock grate. He also flared the fenders and reinforced the engine cradle and chassis. Al said that when he started this project the car was a total loss. It had been sitting for decades and had nearly rotted in half. Being a fan of the 914, he knew he had to give it a new lease on life.

I’d like to hear the opinions of Al’s creation from the 6SpeedOnline readers.  Is this a nice combination that updates and refines the 914, or is it an abomination that should be chased with pitch forks and torches?

Is This 914/911 Mashup Sweet or What?
