Aural Sex: Listen to the V12s of the Ferrari XX Program

Quality audio of the XX cars getting flogged at Mugello is mandatory listening.

It’s not every day that you get to snoop on a track day for Ferrari XX program owners, but today is your lucky day. Ferrari invited Italian racetrack videographer and audiophile 19Bozzy92 to their XX track day at Mugello Circuit in Italy to take in the howling V12 scenery built into the Tuscan countryside. Break out the headphones, we’ll tell you why.

If you’ve never watched any of Bozzy’s videos on YouTube, here’s the deal: This upstanding user tends to hang around Italian circuits (mainly Monza but obviously other tracks and hill climbs and rallies) and shoot some fantastically crisp high-definition video of race cars and track-day cars and just cars in general. However, the real gem is that he records some of the best racetrack audio you’re ever going to find. To get the full experience here, you really should wear headphones if at all possible; the sound quality is just fantastic.

OK, now that we’ve got that out of the way, flip on the video and just take in the incredible V12 sounds of these purpose-built track machines. It’s a sound that just doesn’t get old. The XX program—wherein Ferrari hangs onto your car for safekeeping and maintenance and then you get to drive it on-track events—carries a hefty price tag for a car you can’t stand and admire in your home garage, but that sky-splitting exhaust note is exactly where the owners’ dollars go. It’s money well-spent.

As for the cars, there’s a good variety here of FXX Evoluzione, 599XX, FXX K, and 599XX Evo, many of which carry distinct paint schemes that are more than just the “boring” Ferrari red. The sound differences between the models are subtle, but they’re certainly there and the immaculate sound quality makes it sound like Giuseppe Verdi’s finest aria. Nevermind that opera reference, though, just listen to the sweet refrains of the Ferrari XX cars.

The next XX Program is May 3 and 4 at Monza; we wonder if 19Bozzy92 might be around that one, too.
