The Bentley Continental GT3-R is a Technical Masterpiece

Lately, Bentley has been drawing my attention more and more, it’s not because I particularly like the styling of the ever present Continental GT. Or the fact that they weigh what seems to be 17 metric tons.

No, the cars are growing on me because even though they weigh that much, the engineers over at Bentley are beyond brilliant. How you might ask, by making these luxury land yachts do incredible feats of power and agility.

Take for example the new Continental GT3-R. The car weighs 4839 lbs. Yet it can do 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, and has a top speed of 170 mph. That’s essentially making a small motorhome and strapping rockets to its butt.

For example, the new F-150, a 20’ cargo container, a small forklift, a white rhino, an adolescent elephant all weigh the same as this Bentley. All of which are not able to move as quickly as that car, except maybe if dropped from a plane.

The car has been slimmed down from the normal weight by cutting 200 lbs, but even then, it’s no svelte Lotus. It’s still a brash bruiser that will knock you out with one punch.

Out of the possible 300 to be built, only 99 of this technical exercise will be shipped over to our shores, and each will carry a price tag of a cool $337,000.

This car is worth the money just based on the level of engineering that has gone into it allowing this car to move and stop without needing a runway to do either. Bentley, you’re doing some amazing things, please don’t stop.
