In the best news that will ever come out this week, and possibly this year. Dodge has just announced that the starting price on the new Viper will be reduced a drastic $15,000 to put it in shooting distance with the Corvette Z06!!!

Viper sales have not been what the company has wanted for a long time. The plant has been shut down a few times in the past few months because inventory is just not moving. That’s not because the Viper is a bad car, but rather because the Viper carries a sticker price that puts it against 911s and other exotica which honestly it could go up against, but the customer base for the Viper just aren’t cross shopping those other cars. What Viper owners do cross shop with is the Corvette, which starts way lower than the Viper.

The Viper has always been a street fighter type of car. It’s brutish, loud and completely ostentatious. But that’s what made it great. This new one though wants to be taken seriously, and wants to be a true performer. That however means it needs to be put up against the new Z06 ‘Vette, something it ccouldn’tdo due to its starting price.

That now, thankfully has changed. While not dropping the price to totally go up against the Corvette, Dodge dropped the price a whole $15k to get more buyers and butts in the seats of its supercar. I’m an unabashed Viper fan, I’ve had a Viper poster on my wall since I was 11, and I have a 1st gen Viper model sitting on my desk as I write this up, and this news makes me jump for joy!

I too thought that the starting price was a bit steep for the Viper, but this correction makes me hope that the Viper will continue on into the future so my kids will have new Viper too.

Thank you Dodge, thank you for ensuring the longevity of this car. Hopefully this means I can drive one soon!
