The BMW 1M has Already Appreciated in Value

If you were hoping to pick up a used BMW 1M for a deal, you’re screwed. According to an article by Autoblog, they have risen like a hot air balloon. Searching high and low, Autoblog found ” …an average asking price of a whopping $61,670…”.

I know what you’re thinking.

“Didn’t the BMW 1M go on sale only a few years ago?”

Yes, in 2011.

“But it’s only 3 years old, how could it have appreciated so fast?”

A combination of things. They only 740 sold in the US, but even before they debuted, there was a hungry crowd of enthusiasts and purists complaining that the new M cars were too fat; that BMW was losing its way. Numerous comparisons of the 1M to the original E30 M3 whipped the buying crowd into a fever pitch, and then, when it finally debuted, it was fantastic. I spent a week with the 1M press car, and it remains one of the most exciting cars I’ve ever driven. Big power, a small wheel base, fly-paper grip and as eager to turn as a bird is to fly. I always knew it would be an investment car, I just didn’t know it would happen so fast.

Few cars have risen from their MSRP so quickly. The only  other one that comes to mind is the Ford GT, which now sells for  double its original price, at minimum.

So if any of you were thinking of getting a 1M, but wanted to wait for them to come down first, it will only get worse from here.
