3D Printed Czinger 21C Just Set The Laguna Seca Production Car Lap Record

The lap record was formerly held by Koenigsegg’s track special, the Sadair’s Spear. Czinger’s 21C blitzed it.
The upper echelon of automotive performance is separated by remarkably narrow margins. Aston Martin, AMG, Ferrari, Porsche, Bugatti. They all play a part here. Laguna Seca as a playground is a perfect place for all of these cars to show their might. It’s a mix of sweeping fast turns, tight sections, the infamous Corkscrew, and long straights that aren’t really straight. And here, numbers matter.
Czinger planted the flag and invited the challenge in 2021 tripping the timing beam in 1:25.44. Koenigsegg stood on top of the hill when the swedish outfit brought out the Jesko. A time of 1:24.86 shows they were taking it serious, according to AutoBlog. And Konigsegg wasn’t done yet. Sadair’s Spear – the coolest named car in the world – laid down an incredible time of 1:24.16. That’s an average of 95.73mph.

Seeing at Laguna Sec is their home track, Czinger had to fight back. But that’s difficult at this specific track. Noise restrictions mean the cars are muffled down. And in order to be a production car, it has to be on road tires. No fancy soft rubber here. So while some cars might play tricks at the Nurburgring, the 21C is honest as Abe Lincoln here. It even honestly wears some damage on the front right corner after an off-track excursion. But hey, numbers don’t lie.

Pro driver Joel Miller is the pilot responsible for the hugely impressive 1:22.30 lap time. That’s an average of 97 and change miles per hour. And on par with full on race cars like the Radical SR10. But this one you can drive on the road and enjoy your tunes. And even though rare, yes the 21C is a production vehicle. As of now, 80 have been made, so it ticks all the boxes of a limited volume production car.

So why the big fuss? Well, 1.8 seconds doesn’t seem like a lot, but in this realm, it’s big enough for a Peterbuilt. Don’t forget too, that average speeds for lap times are linear. Shaving 1.8 additional seconds would be even more difficult. And for that measure of time, if this were Formula 1, that’s the difference between Red Bull and Apline.
