Could this Ferrari F50 Break the Online Automotive Auction Record?
It’s one of only 55 U.S specification Ferrari F50 models built, and going up for auction in August!
Created as an early celebration of the supercar maker’s 50th anniversary, the Ferrari F50 brought together everything the Italian supercar maker had learned through the decades into one spectacular package. Essentially, a road-going Formula 1 car with a passenger seat, a windscreen, headlights, and some wipers.
Of the 349 total models built, 55 were put together to U.S specification, and, according to Motorius, one is going up for sale on Gooding & Company’s new online auction platform soon.
The F50’s mid-mounted V12 engine pushed the limits of natural aspiration with 520 horsepower and a redline of 8,000 rpm. The carbon-fiber tub chassis and bodywork made sure it was unhindered by excess weight, while Bilstein developed the electronically adaptive damping system. Making sure the driver’s head snaps forward under braking as hard as it snapped backward under acceleration, enormous Brembo brakes sit inside the center-locking 18-inch magnesium alloy wheels.
The Ferrari F50 is as spectacular as it is rare, and passionate Ferrari collectors are willing to pay equally spectacular money to own one. The last one we saw go to auction came out from under the hammer at $3.2 million. A Ferrari Enzo currently holds the online auction record of $2.6 million.
Just four of the total Ferrari F50s built were in silver, but how that will affect the price is debatable. It’s not like enough are popping up on the market for people to be selective about what color their used Ferrari F50 comes in. However, this one does come with the factory hardtop box, luggage, and toolkit, which is incredibly desirable in a collector’s car.
More to the point, it’s one of Ferrari’s rawest supercars.
It’s also the only one in Ferrari’s history that’s recipe includes a naturally aspirated V12, a weight of just 2,700 lbs, a six-speed manual transmission, a removable top, and styling by Pininfarina.
Gooding & Company hasn’t given an estimate for how much this Ferrari F50 will go for. However, the expectation is high, and it will feature on the Geared Online Auction, running August 3-7. Bidders will be able to either use the website of Gooding & Company’s mobile app.
