Ford unveils 2020 updates for the GT which include more power, more standard features, and a new “Liquid Carbon” edition.

The Chicago Auto Show is already off to a great start for Ford. 6SpeedOnline was on hand to see the updated 2020 Ford GT unveiling, which will run through the 2022 model year. Ford’s engineers worked on the EcoBoost engine with improved cooling and airflow that now give it 660 horsepower. As well, Ford added a slew of standard equipment, and an updated heritage edition to honor their 1969 Le Mans win. But the biggest news of all is the special edition “Liquid Carbon” exposed carbon fiber edition GT.

Speaking to media, Ford’s General Manager of Multimatic Niche Vehicles, Angus Smith said of the Liquid Carbon GT, “this next chapter in the Ford GT story allows us to demonstrate our mastery in both the art and science of carbon fiber craftsmanship and finishing.” Smith also told us that each Liquid Carbon edition was made through one batch of carbon fiber in order to keep the weave as uniform as possible.

As you can expect, carbon fiber wheels are standard. Owners then can choose from a wide variety of ways to make their Liquid Carbon GT different from the rest. Single or dual center stripes are available in any color you choose, as are the mirror caps. Five different interior configurations can be picked, and even titanium lug nuts can be ordered.

Only twelve Liquid Carbon edition Ford GT’s will be made for each model year and, as with past editions of the GT, qualified buyers have already been identified. Pricing? The Heritage Edition will set you back at least $500,000, and the Liquid Carbon edition comes in at an eye-watering $750,000.

In addition to the new Liquid Carbon edition, the Heritage Edition gets an update, too. The special edition’s number “9” is now a “6” to reflect the number that was on the 1969 Le Mans-winning Gulf Livery car. And, as with all 2020 cars, Carbon Fiber wheels are now available with this edition for the first time.

All 2020 cars receive a standard Akrapovič titanium exhaust, which Smith tells us saves 9 lbs over the standard exhaust and adds a visceral howl to the EcoBoost’s V6 engine note.
