Porsche 951 SEMA 2019

Widerstandsfahig builds some of the most incredible Porsche customs around, but this might be the best one yet.

If you’ve never heard of Brian Bergeron or his company called Widerstandsfahig, well, allow us to catch you up to speed. The low-volume custom widebody Porsche builder has produced only five cars for himself and his clients so far, but they’re some of the most amazing creations you’ll ever lay eyes on. Bergeron develops, builds, and fabricates these masterful machines with his own two hands, massaging them to absolute perfection. His own personal Porsche 944 has been profiled over at our brother site, Rennlist, many, many, many times.

Now, we’re able to watch Bergeron’s latest and perhaps greatest build come to life in the Rennlist forums. It all started with a humble 1987 Porsche 951, which was in somewhat solid shape to begin with. But none of that really mattered, because virtually every panel on this car was destined to either be modified or replaced with new pieces. The 951 is also Bergeron’s first build to receive his all-new Project Nine bodywork, which he’s developed and molded himself.

Like every other build, this one started with the inevitable teardown. Once the wrap was removed, it was clear that this Porsche had its fair share of bumps and bruises. Which didn’t really matter, of course, because Bergeron was going to massage it all into place anyway. He started by mocking up the new body pieces on some spare fenders and measuring several times. Then, the cutting began before the new over fenders were test fitted.

Thanks to careful planning and lots of experience, the new front fenders lineup up perfectly the first time. So Bergeron was able to move on to fitting the rear fenders, along with the custom diffuser, chin spoiler, and front bumper. Virtually every panel of this Porsche has received some sort of upgrade.

The tedious process continued with a custom roll cage for the interior. Because Bergeron doesn’t just build show ponies, mind you. He regularly autocrosses his own 944, and all his builds are made to drive. Further aiding that cause in this case are a set of massive 18×12″ wheels wrapped in steamrolling 335-sized tires.

At this point, pretty much all the bodywork on this incredible Porsche is completed. The car is in primer and block sanding is in progress, so the finish line isn’t too far away. And that’s a good thing, because Bergeron’s 951 is headed to the Battle of the Builders competition at this year’s SEMA show. We might be just a little biased, but you can bet we’ll be rooting for him. In the meantime, be sure and head over here to watch this amazing widebody wonder as it nears completion!
