Luftgekühlt 5: Air-Cooled Porsches & Southern California Car Culture
And while any of these cars would have no problem securing a spot at exclusive concours d’elegance events, they were simply parked among other pre-1998 Porsches, many of which probably only hold significance for the owner. But that’s the beauty of what Long and Idelson have created with Luftgekühlt — it’s still just a California car meet where people admire that which they love. No egos, no judgement, no competition.
You could just as easily chat up Bruce Meyer, co-founder of the Petersen Automotive Museum (pictured below), as you could a first-time Luft attendee. We were all the same person on this day: Porsche enthusiasts.
Luftgekühlt’s casualness, success, and unprecedented access to priceless cars definitely didn’t happen by mistake; we have Long, Idelson, and a big list of collaborators to thank for fostering and showcasing the best aspects of Southern California car culture.
Here’s to many more years of this eclectic Porsche gathering! Check out more from Luftgekühlt 5 below.
