McLaren P1 Owned by F1 Champ Jenson Button up for Grabs
It isn’t every day you get the chance to buy a one-of-one, one owner McLaren P1 originally purchased by racing royalty.
It isn’t every day that you get the chance to purchase a McLaren P1. Mostly because only 375 of these F1 succeeding machines were produced in total. And also because it’s just an amazing car in its own right, even edging out both the Porsche 918 and Ferrari LaFerrari at Silverstone to claim the hypercar crown. But the stunning McLaren P1 you see before you is a little extra special because of who currently owns it, former Formula 1 champ Jenson Button.
We say currently because Button has made the difficult decision to sell his prized P1 via Steve Hurn Cars. And it’s fair to ask why anyone would ever do such a thing. Luckily, Button provided one via Instagram. “It’s a tough decision but living in America I don’t really get the chance to drive this beauty.” He obviously isn’t exaggerating either, since the car has only 551 miles on the odometer.
No McLaren P1 really needs any extra prominence to make it worth good money, of course. But the extra low mileage and F1 champ pedigree don’t hurt. Neither does the fact that this is a “one-of-one” car with McLaren Special Operations (MSO) upgrades including Grauschwartz Grey paint and the Stealth Pack with a grey/black alcantara interior. It’s also equipped with MSO’s “Track Mode 2,” which places the car in track mode without lowering the ride height.
So how much value does all of this add to a McLaren P1? Well, the asking price is a cool $2.1 million U.S. dollars, or double the original MSRP. But hey, maybe a little of that F1 magic will rub off on the new owner. And that alone makes the extra cost worth every penny.
