New 911 Soundbar Special Edition Coming From Porsche Design
Now with more wattage and more advanced technology.
Porsche Design is launching a new soundbar for the auto enthusiasts. The 911 Soundbar Special Edition is the third rendition of the 911 Soundbar the company originally released in 2016, a 2.1-channel virtual surround system built using the exhaust from a 911 GT3.
Compared to the previous models, the new Special Edition 911 Sound Bar sees power boosted from 200 to 300 watts. More enhancements come courtesy of 4K compatible HDMI inputs, and the addition of Spotify Connect and Chromecast. Using those new features, the 911 Soundbar supports multi-room synchronization, allowing for multiple speakers to link up and play audio at the same time. This allows for easy music playback across your entire house or garage.
Our final upgrades come from new supported audio codec support including Dolby Atmos. For those unfamiliar, Atmos is a new form of surround sound that adds vertical audio channels into the mix for a fuller and more immersive experience when watching movies that were mastered with Atmos audio.
Visually the new Special Edition of the 911 Soundbar separates itself from previous models. The base has seen a palate swap moving from black to white, and the muffler unit gets gloss black paint. Not only does it look a little classier, with the new white base it looks more like a piece of modern art than a speaker. The original Soundbar featured an unpainted exhaust with a black base, and the second model in 2018 featured an all-black colorway.
If you want to park one of these amazing soundbars in your living room, you should probably act fast. Like previous version of this soundbar, production will be limited and individually numbered. Production for this year’s speaker has been cut from 911 down to just 500. The suggested retail price is $4,750 and it will be on sale starting in December. They can be ordered from Porsche Design stores, select authorized dealers, or online.
