Petrolicious Features The Most 80s Supercar – Ferrari’s Glorious F40

Ferrari wanted to tackle the 200 mph barrier, and they tore it down with the sledgehammer F40

Did you know that the extra special Ferrari F40 had passive restraint automatic seat belts? Until this video, we’d never realized that was the case. It makes perfect sense, as it was around the right era for such a thing to be true. We’ve seen plenty of F40s in our day, but never having actually driven one, we were blissfully unaware. This is just one of the many things you might learn about the glorious carbon-bodied turbocharged Italian high-speed weapon by watching this Petrolicious video.

If you don’t know Cooper MacNeil, he’s the son of the guy that started the WeatherTech brand of car floor mats. He’s also a racing driver in the IMSA SportsCar Championship sponsored by the same company. More than any of that, though, Cooper is a collector of all things automotive. His current obsession is this gorgeous red F40, and we can’t find a single reason to blame him. The famous flying doorstop was a legend as soon as it was launched. It used power and light weight to streak into the record books as the fastest production car ever, up to that point. Cooper’s F40 is an exquisite example of the model.

This delightful video has all of the synthesized music, slow fade cuts, and lens flares that you’d expect from any piece of media about the rawest sports car to ever come out of the 1980s. From the gated shifter to the delightfully displayed monster of an engine out back, the F40 hides nothing about what it is. From the first moment you see one, even in a video on the internet, you know that it is an animal waiting to be unleashed.
