Sharkwerks Porsche Cayman GT4 Is The Mid-Engine RS Porsche Should Have Built

By -

It doesn’t take much to bring the Cayman GT4 from “awesome” to “flawless,” but Sharkwerks have figured out the recipe.

While Porsche is no longer selling their glorious naturally aspirated 3.8-liter Cayman GT4 model, we’ve heard word that it may be coming back soon. In case you are one of the lucky few to have purchased a GT4 when they were available, congratulations, you’ve got one of the greatest dynamic Porsches ever. In fact, it has very few flaws. Though, no car is perfect. Namely, the gear set was a bit too long, and it needed a slightly more powerful and rev-happy engine.

Enter Sharkwerks, the Northern California-based watercooled Porsche tuning house. They have the loose ends covered with their “Sharkafied” GT4. Luckily for us, the Canadian guys from the Roads Untravelled YouTube channel are here to show you what it’s all about.

There are a number of things you can add to a Cayman GT4 to “Sharkify” it. They have worked up a package that makes the whole kit-and-caboodle work perfectly together. It’s not over the top or overpowered, it fits just right in the Porsche GT lineup. With an IPD intake plenum, a set of Cargraphic headers, and an EVOMS tune, the engine has had its output bumped up to about 430 horsepower. The rear wing has been lifted up off the deck with uprights by Salta Aero for more downforce and better rearward visibility. The gearbox has been ripped apart and rebuilt with shorter gearing and a Guard limited-slip differential. The suspension remains stock, because that’s the one thing Porsche did perfectly on the GT4.

A friend of ours owns a Sharkwerks car quite similar to the one featured here. We had the opportunity to drive it along the California coast, and it is absolutely everything this video makes it out to be. Just try not to kill any squirrels.
