Sultan of Brunei’s Outrageous Car Collection Is Excessive and Enraging

By -

Brunei’s Prince Jafri has car collection that is beyond mere opulence.

What would you do if someone handed you a free-and-clear million dollars? Buy a cool car, a cool home, and call it a day? Now, what would you do with 10 million? Buy a couple of cool cars, an everyday home plus a vacation home, and put the rest away for a rainy day? What about a few billion?

There’s a saying that my wife often reminds me of, “The more you make, the more you spend.” While it always gets on my nerves, it’s mostly true. If you don’t think so, just look at this video by GTBOARD.com, showing a few rare (and confirmed) photographs from the world’s largest car collection. The vehicles allegedly belong to the Sultan of Brunei. However, further research shows that most of the vehicles in said collection belong to Prince Jefri, the Sultan’s third brother.

According to sources, the Sultan actually has his own separate car collection, featuring many modern and better-maintained  vehicles. While some folks have suggested the collection is made up of as much as 7,000 cars, more precise estimates account for 2,500 vehicles. Even worse is that only a small percentage of them are said to be in operable condition.

“When I opened the door I saw that the car had gotten so hot with the windows up in the Brunei summer that the foam padding in the steering wheel had melted and had formed a puddle of melted foam in the front seat.” – Michael Sheehan

Michael Sheehan is a famous Ferrari broker, and was once invited to visit the collection. He was offered to buy a handful of McLaren F1s, Ferrari F40s, and a 288 GTO Evoluzione. He inspected Prince Jafri’s collection in person, and discovered many of the vehicles had basically been left to rot. Yikes.
