Tesla Model S Crushes Competition in California

You may not realize how well the Tesla Model S is performing in the marketplace, so here’s a facts-and-figures blast to the face. In California 1.1 percent of its auto market is electric; the Tesla Model S accounts for roughly half of those electric car sales. Remember, Tesla currently sells only one model, yet the company (in California) outsold 10 automakers’ entire lineups in June. Drive down a road in the Golden State, and you will see more Model S electrics than new Buicks, Cadillacs, Chryslers, Fiats, Jaguars, Land Rovers, Lincolns, Mitsubishis, Porsches and Volvos. Forget the Model S is electric, and the figures still astound: 12 percent of luxury-sports vehicles sold in California have a “Model S”  nameplate.

2013 is looking like a banner year for Tesla. Last year the company sold eight Model S electric cars. This year they are on target to sell 21,000. A Tesla in every U.S. driveway by 2020? No, but get ready to see more of them.
