After a long wait, you can finally spec out the Nissan Z of your dreams.

It’s been quite a while since Nissan announced the follow-up to the Nissan 370Z, simply called the Nissan Z. The newest car to wear the Z badge pays tribute to its heritage with sheetmetal that’s fresh, yet unmistakably familiar. The 2023 Nissan Z is powered by a twin-turbo V6 good for 400 horsepower, and shifting duties are handled by either a nine-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. If you’re reading this website, we’ve got a hunch that you’d pick the latter.

After a long wait, the online configurator is now available. For the past year, the Nissan website has shown a graphic of the outgoing 370Z, simply declaring them “Sold Out.” Now, you can choose color, options, and trims to suit your personal taste. As with any online configurator tool, it’s a great way to kill time when you should probably be working.

Three trim levels are offered – the base Sport, the more well-equipped Performance, and the Proto Spec, which features paint, wheels, and trim that mimic the prototype Z. The Proto Spec, which is limited to just 240 units nationwide, retails for $52,990. All three trims are available with the manual transmission, and transmission choice has no impact on the base price.

Choices, Choices

The Z Sport starts at around $40,000, and adding ten grand gets you to the Performance trim. The Z Performance includes a 1.5-way mechanical clutch-type limited-slip differential, 19″ RAYS wheels, upgraded brakes, front and rear spoilers, and a Bose stereo. It’s also available with a more diverse interior color palette that includes red and blue interior options.

Regardless, we’d rather save the ten grand for mods and buy the base model. For $800, you can grab the Performance model’s front and rear spoilers. We don’t mind the cloth seats, although we do lament the loss of a blue interior. At least all of the exterior color options are available on all trims – Ikazuchi Yellow, Seiran Blue, and Rosewood Metallic are among our favorite shades.

No matter how you spec your Z car, you’re in for a long wait if you choose to buy one. As of now, no dealers on either AutoTrader or Cars.com list in-stock 2023 Nissan Zs. When they do eventually arrive, we’d imaging that most, if not all, are already accounted for.
