Porsche 911 Evolution Roundup Home

Why do we appreciate the Porsche 911’s evolution? When we see those ads and posters where every 911 generation is parked in succession, why do we gaze hypnotically? Is it because we love the progress the 911’s evolution represents?

In 1998 when the 996 came out, the brochures read, “Everything we know … so far.” Porsche was acknowledging every moment, every race, every engineering milestone it took to get them to the 996. That’s an example of how, maybe more than any other brand, Porsche appreciates its past. Porsche realizes the value of each of its generations, from the first batch of 1963 911s to today’s 991. Many of us have been along for the ride, and for those of us who own older 911s, seeing our cars proudly standing in formation feels like a tribute to fond memories. No matter what 911 generation you own, or lust after, there’s something fulfilling about knowing that the object of your desires represents constant improvement. The 911’s evolution never stops, and its a shining example of how attractive progress can be.
