These Two Lamborghinis Share A Common Engine, But They Couldn’t Be More Different
How would you prefer your Colombo V12? In a Countach or in an LM002?
Some thirty years after the LM002 was unveiled, you have to admit that it is possibly the only car to ever have more presence than a Countach. It’s big, brash, and you’d never mistake it for anything but the famed ‘Rambo Lambo’. That said, as supercars go, the Countach is kind of in an aesthetic league of its own. Has there been a company or an era that was as synonymous with ostentatiousness than 1980s Lamborghini? Will there ever be such a time again?
The Countach wasn’t born in the strakes and scoops crazy 1980s, instead it began life with a sleek and understated 1970s design. The car simply evolved over time into the absolute riot as it appears in this short film from AutoMoHo on YouTube. Taking that into consideration, the 80s Lamborghini supercar is perhaps the ultimate in ludicrous design. And that V12 symphony is hard to argue against.
Of course, you get a similar symphony in the LM002, which is something you can’t say about many SUVs. Furthermore, if you look closely at the LM002 design, you’ll see a relatively utilitarian platform that cribs a bit from Jeep, Land Rover, and Mercedes G-Klasse. While the angular wheel arches and huge ‘power bulge’ over the engine are pure Lamborghini craziness, they are both needed from a design perspective to allow the big truck to do what it needs to. Considering this was originally designed for a government military contract, and aimed squarely at the oil production industry, the Sport Utility Truck certainly fits the part. With Lamborghini’s Urus coming out soon, is it as wild as the last Sport Ute they made? We think not.
