Vanderhall Speedster offers more focused single-occupant driving experience.

Vanderhall, the Utah-based manufacturer of delightful, three-wheeled oddities, is back with a new model. Dubbed ‘Speedster,’ this latest Vanderhall model takes the excellent Venice, which we drove last year, and offers a more pure, driver-focused experience.

Mechanically, the new Speedster, which starts at just $26,950, shares most of its underpinnings with its Venice stablemate. Under the aluminum hood, and nestled between the all-aluminum chassis is a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, cribbed from General Motors. It’s a manic sounding like thing, and also good for 180 horsepower, thanks to a large intercooler, free-flowing exhaust and custom ECU calibration fitted by Vanderhall. That engine is paired to a ‘sequential’ 6-speed automatic transmission. The Vanderhall-designed suspension incorporates coil-over shocks, and is not unlike a motorcycle, out back. The front suspension uses a cantilevered pushrod design, and the rear is a single-sided swingarm. Optional large Brembo disc brakes provide, according to the company, ‘vertebrae-compressing’ stopping power, which seems accurate based on our experiences.

The hardware is the same as the Venice, so what makes the Speedster, a Speedster? The 2019 Venice Speedster deletes the Venice’s passenger seat, hoop, and hump, making this a ride for one. Limited in production, all Venice Speedsters are Silver Vintage Metallic with optional black rally stripes. The Speedster is also characterized by a low-profile windshield, an enlarged rear deck hump, and bespoke 18-inch alloy wheels. The interior features Saxony Brown upholstery, and, additionally, a tonneau cover is standard on all Speedsters.

The 2019 Vanderhall Venice Speedster will arrive in showrooms later this year.
