Will the Nürburgring Open Its Speed Filled Doors Once Again?

McLaren P1 - Nurburgring Nordschleife 2013

After a series of unfortunate crashes at the infamous Nürburgring, the owners of the Green Hell put in place a whole course speed limit. This was a fairly bold move by the owners since manufacturers routinely use the track to see just how fast their new cars are. Before the ruling was passed down, Koenigsegg was gearing up to go and attempt to decimate the current lap time with the company’s ridiculous One:1 mega car.

Now, a few weeks later, according to a Road & Track insider, an official announcement made by the owners of the Nürburgring is slated in the next few days. While, rumors persist that they will be revising the course speed limits to allow for ridiculous lap times once again. Many believe that the announcement will just be that manufacturers can come test once again and high speeds. That does not include a full on lap.

While we eagerly await to hear what the owners have in store for the track, we’re reminded that Koenigsegg, right before the track shut down, stated that they should be able to blitz the lap record with their One:1 by tens of seconds, which is frankly insane.
