Turbocharged Nissan Maxima Pulls 996 Porsche Turbo in Mexico

Wow. You never see the Maxima on the drag strip and you never see them ahead of Porsches. Unless you head to Mexico, apparently.

I know this is a bit of a switch up from the normal Porsche-destroys-everything narrative that gets tossed around, but even a king needs to be taken down peg sometimes. Credit where credit is due, that Maxima could boogie.

For the unfamiliar, the car has a variant of the 3.5-liter VQ35DE as the 350Z. The main differences in the stock car are that it’s front wheel drive and the power was been dialed back. Marcos Chavez, the car’s owner, went the other direction by adding a Holset hx35/40 turbo. In this video he’s running 12 psi and a toluene gas mix for safety. The Mickey Thompson drag radials up front are the real key though. Without real rubber he’d burn the tires clean off that thing.

Oh, and that rough shifting? That’s because the synchros in third and fourth are broken. Awesome race.
