Wow, that's a lot of smoke. I guess, it can easily foul sparkplugs / oxygen sensors and damage catalytic converters.

I hope the petition works. I sold my 997 for the same problem and got a ZO6 with a dry sump.

Valter - yeah, it IS a bunch of smoke... it was right after that DE that I started the campaign to get something done. You're right - it could lead to other problems.

David - thanks for your support, I hope it works as well. We're almost to 200 signatures but we need a lot more so spread the word.

Jeff - thank you. You're my biggest supporter. In everything.

I signed up. I had the exact same problem at an open track day this past sunday. It's the first time I've run Rcomps and it happened after every session. Only at start up and went away after a few revs.

Good news!

I received a very positive response from Porsche NA today concerning the petition! They appreciated the positive and constructive tone of the email and petition. The ball is rolling and the issue is being directed to the appropriate folks at PCNA.

Interestingly enough, a service bulletin on this issue surfaced yesterday on caymanclub.net. It's dated back in 2004 for the Boxsters. The fix is to install a Motorsports Vapor Oil Separator, P/N 996 107 926 00. The bulletin can be downloaded at:

Same thing happened to me at Limerock in the Cayman we were driving on the autocross track - giant cloud of blue oil smoke during the sharpest part of the corner - crazy to see.

Also, when the three 911s and three Caymans started up, they ALL emitted large plumes of blue oil smoke.

Great idea on the petition, I'm signed up.
Gundo

Just a note, even a slightly overfilled crankcase can give a result like this.

I have a cayman S with a mantis deep sump kit and I run the oil level one step down from max. I tracked the car for the 1st time (for the car not me) at pocono on R888s and had zero smoke?
