What would you do.....
What would you do.....
Totalled my 08 cayman s after hitting a trailer with no lights....now looking for new porsche..
WOuld you go 09 911 with sports, pasm, blue, xm, ilink, etc etc.
or 09 911 S with no options...
Hard to decide.... I drive this everyday but love the power
Both would be 6 speed as I did not care for PDK as much...

Sorry to hear of your Cayman's demise. Those are nice cars. I tend to agree with above. With the higher power and better brakes in the new C2, there isn't the same need to have the S. On the other hand, options tend to get severely discounted upon resale, although some at least help get a sale (for me, full leather is important, but not sport chrono or cd changer). If you get a C2 with options, be careful to just get the options that are important to you, because they add up to big bucks in a hurry. e.g. leather covered coat hooks are costly and will bring nothing at resale. Good luck. Try to make this selection part fun. It should be.
If it were my money, I'd def. go with the S. It's just so much better. Most of the options you want can be bought later on ebay or at salvage yards and retrofitted to your car. Buy those parts slowly and keep adding them. It'll be harder later to get the 3.8 power and brakes if you go with a 3.6. I had the same option when i bought mine, but i went with a less optioned 3.8 instead of a loaded 3.6 and I'm real happy i did. I bought the Navi pcm after at a great price. Skip the pasm and get coilovers, you'll be happy. The 09' 3.8 is so fun to drive you'll forget what options the car has at all! But if you are leasing and won't have the option to mod the car then i guess you gotta go with the 3.6. How can anyone buy a porsche and not add mods? LOL! Good luck man! Keep us posted.

I personally would get an S as well, the extra standard features are must haves IMO. A low optioned S is just as appealing to some as a fully loaded one if you ever decide to resell it.
C2 with options
First off you will feel the difference going from the Cayman to the C2. Second The performance gap between the C2 and C2S is now much smaller. The C2 has bigger brakes than before, now has a self adjusting clutch, Xenons, etc. so total package differences are much smaller and the C2 now looks like it's better value.
As you prefer stick shift, you might also consider picking up a lightly used 997.1 C2S with options that you like, at a very attractive price. Most dealers will be getting 06's and 07's coming back in and will be pretty keen to shift them. The trick is to figure out what options and colors you want and then set about searching Porsche's used car database to see who has what you want. 06's and 07's will obviously come with the balance of warranty and you can add extended warranty for less than you might spend on a brand new 997.2 C2.

Folks always talk about the engine in the 997.1S vs the base model but you actually get:
19" Carrera Wheels $1,550.00
Bi-Xenon $1,090.00
PASM $1,990.00
Sport Steering $250.00
Gear Lever in Aluminum $290.00
Switch Panel Aluminum $500.00 Estimate
Bigger Brakes $1,200.00 Estimate
Total $6,870.00
The extra 30HP and 22 lb-ft cost $3,430.00

Assumption
That all those extras are actually of value to you. The aluminum trim is tacky plastic, so not much value there. The brakes have been upgraded so do you need more? I believe Xenon's are now standard on both models but I could be wrong. and again if you live and drive in a city they're not worth the added expense. PASM is of questionable value if you don't track the car. And 19" degrade the ride and in many ways make the car less fun to drive as it's harder to get the back end to come loose. The sports steering wheel is worth it, but you can add it later. And finally you have to ask yourself how much of the car's performance do you actually get to use? Is it 50%? So why pay for what you don't use?
There are two sides to this argument, but in the end what is one man's value maybe another man's excess.

I would go for the S but I would not cut out every option . I would be very selective and that falls on your needs . I am not sure if axle lock is an option but I would get it . I would never miss the NAV but would want upgraded sound . I like the sport chrono . I like sports adaptive seats . Full leather is a tough one . I really like it but if I had to opt out of a big ticket item that might be it.
Thanks guys for all your replies....
it looks like I can get an Artic Grey c2 09 with Nav, blue, xm, sports chrono, bose, audio link, pwr seats, corner kights and 19" sports wheels - lists @ 88K and I can take it for 80K
that is about 10K less than I can find on a pretty basic 09 C2S Best I can find there is around 94K and they will take 4K as a discount....
I'm leaning to the artic grey...wasn't my first pick in color but it won't show dirt, swirls as much. Still love speed yellow, black, basalt and midnight blue....

I do feel that at 80 grand you ought to be happy on color though. Lastly speed yellow has seen its share of resale issues . I don't know why --just an observation .
The silver is working on me....I saw that it was the number one color for sports cars so the resale should be good and I do like how well it hides dirt etc.
Pretty sure that is where Im going....
