new guy in these parts

Hello everyone my name is Ryan. Im 23 and currently drive a Honda s2000 and love it. But ever since I was little ive dreamed about owning a early 90s 911. And well I finally have the means to do that I think.

So before I start looking I have a few questions.
what is the best year for late 80s early 90s 911's? As far as problems, ups and downs, pros and cons. That kind of stuff.

and I would like to stay under $30k. Is that reasonable. If needed I could go as much as $50k if I found one I cant live without.

My ultimate goal for it would be to have a reliable and fast street car but that I can track and have fun in and turn on a dime.

im also thinking about keeping my s2000 as the daily and buying a beat up 911 that I can build into a street legal track beast. Only problem with that is as much as I love these cars I dont know the first thing mechanicaly about them.

Well in all honesty, you aren't going to have a late 80s Porsche outrun your 2k unless you put some work into it. It's just a simple fact. The 3.6 power plant only put out around 250 stock...in the 80-90s. Now with that said, I'm talking about the 964 here, it is a good car, and can be found relatively cheap still.

If I was you, I'd buy an early 80s 911 SC. A lot of people say to try and get a late 80s SC with the G50 trans, but it's just preference. The 915 box is a great box, and was around forever, it's also going to be cheaper. You can find them all day in your price range. I'd do some research on Pelican Parts and other major air cooled forums and start looking around. Try to learn as much as possible about the ins and outs of owning an air cooled 911, they need special loving sometimes. Lol. They are a lot of fun, and will put a huge grin on your face. I loved mine when it was on the road, but I decided to start a full on track car. Best of luck in your quest for one, once found, you will love it.

Chris
