How much should I offer for this Slant Nose?
How much should I offer for this Slant Nose?
This Slant Nose turbo belongs to a friend of mines client. It has been sitting for two years or so. Very dirty. Top needs to be replaced, needs body work, not sure if it runs, inside is filthy. White on white baby. This was once the king of the road. I am about to give the guy an offer but not sure how much this baby is worth. Not sure on the year or mileage right now. How much do you think it would cost to get this thing back on the road?? I took some pics to show you how filthy this thing is....what a disgrace.

Given you can make contact with the owner - why not ask for the key and see if it will start, get a feel for mileage and condition and take it for a spin? Hard to say what to offer not even knowing if it will start.
If it's been sitting for two years, DO NOT start it without first: draining and changing all fluids, flushing the fuel lines, and changing the filters. Pull all the plugs and put a few drops of oil down every hole, install new plugs and see if you can turn the crank over manually with a large wrench. Then, if the battery does not need to be replaced, try to start it.
From those pics, it's impossible to tell if it's even a real slantnose. Or even turbo for that matter. It could be a '74 Targa converted to widebody, slant cab with 965 front and rear bumper covers. Take pics of engine/vin/mileage, as well as any additional interior and engine compartment pics, and post them and we'll try to give you an accurate assessment of its value.

It is possible to tell if it's a factory slant...and it's not. There's no jack ports in the rocker panel...front spoiler is wrong. Rear fender is wrong....this is an aftermarket slant kit superimposed on whatever year it was body. I cant' tell if it's even a turbo. Is there an oil cooler in the left rear fenderwell on the passenger's side? Is there a condenser in the center of the front bumper? Do the headlights activate by a bar that runs to each side and are driven by a single motor in the middle? Most likely they're driven by two aftermarket 944 motors on each side....headlights should be round, not rectangular, but can't tell from the pics. Defintely not a factory slant.
So should I be staying away from this thing? Is there a problem with non factory slant? I have a feeling this guy is going to practically give it away. Its been sitting at one of his 3 lofts downtown for 2 years or so.
Hell no you shouldn't steer clear of it. Just becasue it's not a factory slant doesn't mean it can't be a lot of fun. What you've got to do though is find out what it is...what's in it...If he's going to unload it cheap, you might be able to pick up a fun car fairly cheaply....but warning***** Any car that's been sitting around like that can be a money hole....seals get hard, vacuum tubing fractures, electrical fittings corrode, fuses blow, switches don't work, the moving parts on the convertible top rust....could have rust in the engine. Any number of issues... but if you take it to a good Porsche guy and have him look it over and give you a list of fix'it's...you may end up with a fun car that you could get running for who knows how much. It won't have the value of a factory slant, but it doesn't take a factory slant to have fun. BTW the top alone is about $600. Then there's the canvas boot to put over the top when it's down....$350 used...leather seats probably run $1,000 to have redone, maybe a bit more...get the picture? A cabriolet is going to cost more to put on the road than a coupe. But a project car can provide you with a lot of fun...provided you have the funds to buy the necessary parts.

Even without the key, can't you just go look at the car?... Look through the slates in the wing... See an intercooler?, if so it's probably worth pursuing, if not and it's N/A, who knows how its been cobbled together and I'd move on...
What model year is it being advertised at? I couldn't get the link to work. The factory slants started in 87-89, but I believe that the Special Wishes Program was in effect and manufactured some prior to that....just not "officially produced" and dont' carry the M505 or M506 option codes.
