930 cis to efi conversion
930 cis to efi conversion
Trying to find out which ecu and ignition system to use that wont make me poor. Also anybody know of anybody selling a fuel rail conversion for the efi setup.
Are you talking just the electronics ? I have done all the engine mods already. Most of the fuel rail coversion kits cost between $1000-1500, injectors, senors, etc.. another $800. give or take, with the ecu being the most expensive item depending which one you use $1000 to 5+k.
When my motor was rebuild we build it w EFI in mind but I just couldn't afford/justify the expense. For my car, I needed different intercooler (I have Ruf intercooler now), carrera intake, fuel rails, and I was going to use Motronic from the regular Carrera (Prototech in Ft Lauderdale). But installed it came to $10K every time. Even when someone else was going to do it for me at a very low labor rate, we still came out around $6-7K.

EFI can be done for less than most spend (me included). I have a Motec M600 that (with options, harness, and lots of cool sensors) cost well over $5K just for the ECU. Throw in a 3.2 manifold and things start to get expensive fast. Add a full bay aftermarket custom IC ($3-4K) and lots of custom fabrication work. You can quickly get caried away with this type of project.
Now if you are just looking for a basic system without all the data logging and fancy program interfaces, you should take a look at Mega Squirt. ECU's start at $250-$500 for the basic unit.
After that you will need a way to mount the injectors. The simplest way is to use the kit from TurboKraft that retains your OE intake system. It replaces the injector blocks and adds a fuel rail. $1500
You will also want to remove the recirc valve for a C2 style valve. A long kneck IC would be best (on the open used market they run ~$1k). Look for a Garretson (Andial) IC if you are looking to retain your AC. They fit perfect and perform much better than stock. (Here is an link to an Install How-To to give you an idea of what it looks like).
Also here is a good thread with lots of information on such a conversion.
There is more to this like wiring and tuning but it can be done within reason. Even though the MS unit is not the top of the line ECU of choice, it should out perform any CIS system out there I would think.
